Storytelling shorts are extracted from “The Storytelling Series: Beginners’ Guide for Small Businesses & Content Creators”. Each chapter of the 9 books in the series starts with a short story about the African diaspora experience. I will, however, like to state that the short stories are all fictional and are for creative reasons only.
A friend’s recommendation led her to two life-changing books, “Design Your Life” by Bill Burnett and “The Organized Mind: The Science of Preventing Overload, Increasing Productivity and Restoring Your Focus” by Daniel Levitin.
After reading the books, Marga-ret was amazed at how quickly her life started to change for the better. She became more productive and focused, which led to improving her relationships and even creating a successful blog. Margaret’s story is an inspiring example of how anyone can transform their life by taking control of their organization and productivity.
The story
Hi there, my name is Margaret, and am a business consultant in Paris, France. Although I wasn’t doing particularly badly in my business, I must confess that I was living a disorganized life, constantly feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Every other day, I found piles of paperwork and to-do lists that seemed to never end on my desk.
At a point, I felt stuck in a never-ending cycle of chaos where nothing I did make any real difference. That was until I received a book recommendation from a friend and that changed everything for me and my business.
One day, I was chatting with a friend who recently moved to France from Los Angeles and I was telling her about my struggles with organization. After hearing my story, she recommended two books and said they have completely transformed her own life.
The first book was “Design your life” by Bill Burnett and the second book was “The Organized Mind: The Science of Preventing Overload, Increasing Productivity and Restoring Your Focus” by Daniel Levitin.
I was skeptical, I must admit but I trusted my friends and decided to give it a chance.
Because I so needed that change, I devoured the two books, one immediately after the other. The truth is that I was amazed at how quickly my life started to change. For the first time, I was able to tackle my to-do list, and my paperwork was finally put under control. Goodness me, my stress levels dropped, and I started to feel like I was in control of my life for the first time in a long time.
All these cumulated into more productive and better focus. My relationships with friends and family equally improved. I even started a blog to share my tips and tricks with others, and before I knew it, my blog which targeted mainly small businesses in Paris metropolitan areas started to attract thousands of followers.
Of course, nothing good comes easy and so it was with my success. I was faced with many challenges along the way, including overcoming my old habits and sticking to the new routine. But I must thank my friend for her support and also my perseverance and firm determination to make the most of the information from the book.
So, if you are ready to transform your life, take a cue from my story. Start organizing your life and your story, and watch as your world changes before your very eyes.
Takeaway from the story
The lesson from this story is that disorganization and chaos can be overwhelming, leading to stress and a feeling of being stuck. However, with the right resources and determination, one can take control of their lives and transform it for the better.
In this case, reading the recommended books, “Design Your Life” by Bill Burnett and “The Organized Mind: The Science of Preventing Overload, Increasing Productivity and Restoring Your Focus” by Daniel Levitin, provided the necessary tools and inspiration for the protagonist, Margaret, to turn her life around.
The key takeaway is that it’s never too late to make positive changes in one’s life, and sometimes all it takes is a small recommendation or a little push from a friend.
