How To Record Your Podcast In The Best Way Possible
Want to learn how to record your podcast in the best way possible? Then keep reading. One of the most important aspects of podcasting is sound quality. Recording your podcast in the best way possible is essential if you want to be successful in your podcasting. To record your podcast, you first need to consider what type of mic you are using. If you are using a laptop or smartphone mic, it’s not recommended to use them for recording podcasts because they tend to pick up too much background noise and other unwanted sounds in your final outputs. But if you are using an external mic with a pop filter attached (or one that comes with your recording software) then you can get a clean job.

How to Prepare for your Podcast Recording
The best way to prepare for your podcast recording is to make sure you have the right equipment. You should also plan out what you want to cover and how you want to cover it. For example, if you are doing a show about fitness, then make sure that you have a microphone that will pick up your voice well so that your energy can pass through to the recording.
Another important thing to consider when preparing for your podcast recording is what you are going to talk about and the needed equipment to use. Begin by figuring out how long it will be and think about some of your sound bits which should be entertaining enough to make listeners tune in.
You don’t have enough information about that. No problem. You can research it. getting needed information is now much easier with Google. The following tips might help you out:
- Listen to other podcasts, maybe those similar to what you will like to create.
- Do you need to invite guests to your show? Research them to know what is the best fit for you.
- If possible, send out a Pre-Interview Survey to know what your audience will be interested in. this can be helpful, getting them involved earlier on.
- Read some interesting books about podcasting. No one knows it all, so hurt for information wherever you can.
Before starting, make sure you know what your niche is. Select a topic for which you can create more than 100 episodes worth of content.
This will ensure that your podcast has a decent amount of quality material, making it easier to constantly release new content with less effort.
Consider the format and possible length of your podcast episodes
The length of your podcast can be influenced by the subject matter of the podcast itself. For example, podcasts about how to learn a new language may be shorter than podcasts about how to travel the world for a year.
Really, it does not serve you over bordering yourself with the length of your podcast when all it boils down to is actually the right time that is needed to deliver quality information.
Just as it doesn’t do you any good filling your podcast with unnecessary repetitions, so you can make a 10 minutes message longer than 30 minutes, it also does not help the audience if you reduce a 1 or 2 hours conversation to 30 minutes.
“People don’t have time”, many will complain these days, but ask an average person to give an accurate description of what he/she spend 24 hours on. So, the length, I want to advise, should be relative to your podcast planning.
How to Record your Podcast on a PC
To record a podcast on a PC, you will need a PC, a microphone, and audio editing software. Simply plug your microphone into your computer and follow the instructions in your software on how to record your voice.
If you are recording on a smartphone, you will need an external microphone plugged into the headphone jack of the device so you can get better-quality sound.
It’s also important to make sure that you have enough space for recording – try recording in a quiet room with little background noise.
For my recording of Obehi Podcast, I use Adobe audition, but the procedure is the same with Audacity.
Adobe Audition is a powerful application that makes it easy to record or mix audio or create simple podcasts for your blog. It has many great features and can make your use of sound effects easier than ever.
Whatever works for you, just get started with your recording.
How to Record a Good Podcast Interview
A podcast interview is an audio recording of an interview with a real person. It is usually done in a studio, but it can also be done remotely.
There are many ways to record a podcast interview. You can use a smartphone, a microphone plugged in on your computer, or even the built-in microphones on your laptop.
The best way to record a podcast interview is to set up the room beforehand so that there are no distractions and you won’t be interrupted by other people walking into the room during your recording session.
I can tell you from experience – it has happened to me more than once. Of course, you can always edit that part out if you know what you are doing, but it’s always a better option to avoid it in the first place.
What about a connection for remote recording, where maybe you are in one place and your guest in another location, a different country, and continent, in my case?
Like most podcasters that I know out there, I use Zoom for recording a remote interview for Obehi Podcast. Podcasters use Zoom for connecting and because most people are familiar with it, makes the process easy. It’s also very convenient; you don’t have to install the software to use it, which makes the whole process quite smooth.
How to Record a podcast with a Smartphone
If you are just starting with podcasting, you will need some equipment, but once you have your microphone and recording software, all you need is a smartphone. You can get started, by recording your podcast with a smartphone.
If you don’t have a smartphone, or if you want to record better quality audio than what your phone records, there are some tools that can help you out. Consider for example:
- A headset with an external microphone,
- A USB mic,
- A dedicated microphone,
- And a mixer just to name a few.
The RØDE Reporter app is a great, simple audio recorder for podcasting on the go. Another excellent mobile podcasting tool is Anchor. This is a super simple web and iOS app that allows you to easily record and edit a podcast, and distribute it to popular networks like Spotify, Apple Podcasts, iTunes Podcasts, and Google Play.
Consider your podcast Recording Studio or Environment?
Quality equipment and software can greatly aid your podcast, but make sure to use them in an appropriate environment. Your sound will largely depend on the acoustics of the recording space.
Many podcast recording studios are not ideal for recording and mixing audio. We can see many problems with these studios, such as low-quality microphones, poor acoustics, and an out-of-date soundboard.
These are just some of the issues that you might face when you are trying to record your podcast in a studio that is not up to par. But before you decide to give up on your studio altogether, it is important to know what else you can do.
If you have a dedicated room or space for your podcast recording studio, then make sure that it’s not too big or small for what you need it. If possible, consider investing in professional gear and software like the best microphones and mixers available in the market today.
Record your podcast using audio software
Record your podcast, using the best software for audio recording. If you are looking for a quick and easy way to get started with podcasting, then a USB microphone can be the perfect solution.
There are many different models of USB microphones that will work with your computer and audio software. However, if you are using more than one USB mic, you might need to do a bit of configuration to get things working smoothly.
