The story
Hi there, my name is Oboh and I am a computer salesman in New York City. To say that I worked very hard on my job will be an understatement because I come from a Nigerian immigrant family where the second form of religion in our household is hard work.
My father literarily believes that hard work trumps everything. But that did not translate well in my case. Despite my best efforts and always putting in long hours to make sales, I was barely scraping by and I never understood why.
One day after seeing a miserable sale result as usual, I was frustrated and I left his busy work and started searching online for a coaching course on sales. That was where I finally learned about the power of storytelling in business.
During the coaching section, I learned about the hero’s journey and how it could be used to captivate my audience and sell more of my products. I must say I have heard of storytelling in business before but this time was different and my computer sales got the better part of it.
Following what I learned in the training course, I started to restructure my sales pitches around the recommended framework, highlighting the challenges my customers faced and positioning myself as the hero who could help them overcome those challenges.
The results were unmistakably surprising and fast coming also. One month after the training program, my sales began to skyrocket, and I was finally able to see good profit from my business. Suddenly, I was now able to close deals that had previously eluded him, and I became the top salesman in my area of New York City.
As most great salespeople will do, I continued to refine my skills, learning new storytelling techniques and incorporating them into my sales pitches.
